As We Embark On Our Travel Adventures In 2017, Here Are Some Of Our New Year Resolutions.
As my daughter gets older, family travel is changing for us. We are now travelling more often than ever, escaping to more adventurous destinations whilst she is having more say in the activities and attractions we venture into. As we grow as a blended family, travel is becoming more and more ingrained in our lives. Even more so in the new year. Having something to look forward to, planning what we would like to see and do has become an integral part of us becoming closer.
As I look back on the trips we did last year and looking forward to the trips we will be doing this year, it occurred to me that there were certain travel habits I wanted to either change or improve upon. So I’d like to share with you our 2017 New Year’s travel resolutions and how we want to view the world together as a family.
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #1
Far, Far Way. To travel to a destination that would require more than 15 hours travel time. For us, that pretty much means to anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere! With the seasons the polar opposite, no better time to escape to the North for an extended summer when it’s freezing cold in Australia.
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #2
New Destination. To travel to a destination we have never been before. The problem with living down under is that we tend to go back to the same places. It’s just so much more convenient when we don’t have a lot of time and just want a quick getaway. The closest non English speaking destination for us is Bali (not that that’s a bad thing! LOL. We LOVE Bali!) It just means it makes for lazy travel and I realise that this is not going to expand my daughter’s cultural horizons!
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #3
Stay Domestic. Australia is a vast and beautiful country. Whilst I’m so busy getting that passport stamped, I seem to have neglected to explore my own neck of the woods. Australia has so much to offer. Did you know it would take 14 days to circumnavigate this country and that we have the longest national motorway on the planet?
We actually don’t even need to fly anywhere. We could just get in the car and explore my own home state of Victoria. We have everything from mountain ranges, to wine country to endless stretches of beaches. It really is the perfect solution for a short escapade or staycation.
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #4
First Time. For every holiday that we take I would like to engage in as many “first time” experiences as I can. It could be an activity, a culinary delight or simple trying something new. But I would like to do this as a family so that we can always look back at those experiences with fond memories. I have found that the things we did together on our holidays are the ones we tend to reminisce about the most. And we just bought the new GoPro so I’d like to be able to document these moments a little more.
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #5
Grandparent. I recently lost father and we had our first Christmas without him. So this year I would like to go on a holiday with my mother so that she can spend some quality time with her granddaughter. Apart from visiting her in Kuala Lumpur, we have not actually gone overseas as a family and I think it would be wonderful for the both of them to spend some time together in new and different environments.
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #6
Bucket List. I would like to tick something off the bucket list this year. Although in saying that our bucket list is long and with our daughter wanting to see and experience more, the list is growing exponentially! So it’s really not that hard to cross anything off. Perhaps our resolution should be crossing multiple things off in one trip!
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #7
Adults Only Trip. Although we are all about family travel, it is also important to have some adult time. Much like the occasional date night, a trip with just my partner and I is definitely on the cards. We just get so caught up with living life that we forget to connect. We’re thinking Hawaii. What do you reckon?
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #8
Exercise. I would like to exercise more whilst on holidays. We do so regularly throughout the week and whenever we go on holidays we seem to stop. Although in saying that some travel days are just exhausting so it’s a tad difficult. As always we also tend to over indulge on food when we’re away but that’s half of the holiday experience and not something we really want to cut back on. There really is no excuse to not even get 15 minutes in the morning before venturing out.
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #9
Plan Less. Wander more. I have to learn to go on a holiday without an itinerary and I’m a list girl so that’s a big ask. But I don’t want to stick to a schedule or plan our days in its entirety anymore. I’m unable to embark to a destination without some kind of plan but one that is perhaps less rigid or constrained by time. I’ll reduce it to just a small list of “must sees” and “would be nice” lists and we’ll just work it out when we get there. Hmm…. No guarantees I can keep this resolution! LOL!
2017 NEW YEAR TRAVEL RESOLUTION #10
Blog. I would like to dedicate more time to this blog. Life just gets in the way and before I knew it, it was the end of 2016! I started this blog as a hobby for both travel and writing. It was also a good way to document my travels as I get asked for travel tips all of the time. But this little venture has now grown into a full blown digital business, which I didn’t expect! And the fact that it’s now helping to fund my travels, it only makes sense for me to dedicated more of my life to this blog.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for continually supporting this blog and being so supportive. I’m looking forward to all the trips we will be making this year and sharing all my stories with you!
